| Recognition for the town’s wastewater treatment plant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). “I think it’s a really great honor that we received this award,” council President Leroy Warren told fellow council members. In late July, the town received notification from the EPA’s regional office in Chicago that the town’s wastewater treatment plant had tied for 1st place in the small advanced category for this year. In a letter to the town, Acting Regional Administrator Bharat Mathur praised the town for taking the initiative to demonstrate environmental stewardship, while optimizing the efficiency of the plant’s operation and maintenance. “We believe that by working together, we can solve environmental problems with communities such as yours in common-sense ways,” Mathur wrote. “Your efforts will serve as a model for other communities, and we encourage you to share your management practices with others facing similar challenges,” Mathur added. Plant manager Scott Hunsucker said officials with the EPA will present the town with the award during a public ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Pewter Hall in Brownstown. Warren said it was a great honor that the town had been selected as having one of the best plants from all other communities in the state of Indiana. |
